Aero Fungicide is the latest product to be released by Nufarm for Australian potato growers. Registration for Australian use was granted by the APVMA in May 2006.
Guy Perriman, National Horticulture Manager for Nufarm, said that Aero has been developed in Australia using the resources of the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and the Nufarm development team.
Aero has been registered for control of early blight and late blight – two of the major foliar diseases that potato growers can face.
“Aero offers growers a double defense strategy for disease control. The product contains two active ingredients – pyraclostrobin (Group K) and metiram (Group Y) that together provide disease control based upon two different modes of action. This approach is designed to provide a high level of disease control while minimising the risk of potential disease resistance.” Mr Perriman said.
“Grower’s (and their advisers) are well aware of the potential for fungicides to lose their effectiveness due to resistance if effective strategies are not implemented.”
“Aero represents the first of a number of new fungicides that Nufarm are developing for use in potatoes. Further product releases are planned for 2007.” Mr Perriman said.
Aero should be used in rotation with alternative chemistry. The product is formulated as a wettable granule (WG) and will soon be available in an easy to handle five kilogram pack.
