Demand for Aussie oranges soars in the United States

Australian oranges are increasing in demand in the Americas due to a shortage in Californian navels and a delay in Chile’s citrus season.

The lack of local supply in the States has served as a prime opportunity for Aussie’s growers says citrus importer, Stu Monaghan from DNE World Fruit Sales, ABC Rural reports.

“We wish we had more fruit to sell here in the US," he said.

"It seems that Chile has (had) a later start than we expected and of course California finished earlier this year."

Monaghan adds that the quality in Australian fruit has been exceptionally good this year.

"Australian citrus has been in demand and the quality has been exceptional so far this year, so the season has gone quite well for us with what we've had to sell here."
