Formed in 1972, the Australian Fertiliser Services Association (AFSA) has represented the interests of professionals working with fertilisers and soil ameliorate products for some 40 years.

The Association states that it is the industry body for all professionals in this industry, including those who manufacture, distribute, store, transport, spread or provide advice on the use of fertilisers.

The AFSA is recognised by both Federal and State governments, as well as other key industry stakeholders, as an industry leader. In addition, over the years it has developed effective relationships with key agricultural agencies and representative bodies.

It actively promotes the sustainable use of fertilisers and soil ameliorates, and has developed and implemented a Code of Practice to improve operating standards within the industry.

This Code is the basis for the industry accreditation program Fertcare, which provides professional development and training services for business owners and their employees.

In addition to Fertcare, the AFSA has developed Accuspread, a programme that tests and accredits fertiliser spreading equipment for accuracy and evenness of spreading. The objectives of AccuSpread are to:

  • minimise environmental damage
  • improve productivity
  • reduce costly liability claims; and
  • improve operating standards in the industry.

Membership of the AFSA provides a number of benefits, with the Association noting that the networks within the organisation are most valuable to members. Utilising these networks, members can:

  • identify and develop business opportunities
  • address business and technical concerns; and
  • keep up to date with industry developments.
