The Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) is the professional organisation that represents veterinarians committed to excelling in small animal practice across Australia and is the largest special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA).

The ASAVA is dedicated to achieving significant advancements in the small animal veterinary, while continuing to educate of its members about high quality companion animal practice. 

This year the Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) Annual Conference and Inaugural Nurses’ Conference 2012 is due to take place in Perth on the 12th – 17th August.

Due to the increasing popularity of the two day nurses’ stream introduced at the previous three annual conferences the ASAVA has this year decided to launch the Inaugural Nurses Conference, giving it its own brand, flavour and speakers. 

Topics which will be included in the Nurses’ Conference will include:

  • Surgical Nursing
  • After the Surgeon is done
  • Physical rehabilitation
  • ICU reality check
  • Anaesthesia
  • Dealing with Clients, customers and consumers
  • Clinical Pathology
  • Dog Behaviour
  • Legal duties of veterinary nurses; and
  • Nutrition.

The conference will be accomodated by the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and will include lectures and Industry Exhibitionx running over four days from Monday to Thursday, while a number of delegates will have the opportunity to promote their own lunchtime seminars.

The ASAVA Annual Conference attracts many practice owners and therefore provides attendees with a valuable networking opportunity to catch up with existing clients and meet prospective customers.

Approximately 80% of all practising veterinarians work in small animal based hospitals and clinics, with this to continue and potentially increase in the future. This is likely to continue and potentially grow over the next decadeThis annual conference is a shining example of the Australian Small Veterinary Association's continuing commitment to the veterinary profession.
