Biodynamic Agriculture Australia (BAA) is a not-for-profit company that "promotes biodynamic growing methodology, and supports healthy sustainable food production at all levels across Australia."
It was formed in 1989 as a NSW Incorporated Association, becoming a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee in 2007 to reflect its growing national membership.
The BAA states that its mission is to conduct, foster and promote:growth in the number of commercial biodynamic farmers and an increasing range and quantity of certified biodynamic produce for the domestic and international marketthe application of biodynamic methods in community cultural activities eg. biodynamic farming, biodynamic horticulture, home gardening and environmental careworkshops and field days on a local and national level, for beginners and specific groupsbiodynamic preparations, and guidelines on how to use and manufacture thema biodynamic phone advisory servicebooks and guides to biodynamics; andadvice to NASAA and BFA on Biodynamic Certification Standards.
The company fulfils this mission in part by providing ongoing research and development, including:practical research into restoring the natural environment after devastating bushfire using biodynamic methods in Victoriaparticipation on the Standards Australia Committee, Organic & Biodynamic Production Standards; andin-house chromatography laboratory offering qualitative testing of soils, plant tissue and other food items.
BAA has 1,200 members, all of whom are potential advocates in their areas. The company conducts regular hands-on training with local groups, acting as a catalyst for the development of supportive networks of like-minded individuals dedicated to growing high quality biodynamic food, particularly in rural areas and where people have been affected by natural disaster extremes.
