The Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA)  is a not-for-profit organisation that represents and develops the interests of organic industry professionals, describing itself as the 'voice of Australian organics.'

The organisation also plays a role as a public educator, informing the greater community about the benefits of organic food and farming.

It is active in:

  • the development of meaningful organic standards
  • lobbying governments on behalf of the organic industry; and
  • supporting the growth of domestic and international organic markets for Australian operators.

It also provides assistance in market intelligence, exporting requirements, and development of contacts and networks.

It should be noted that BFA itself is not a certification body; rather that role is undertaken by its subsidiary companies Australian Certified Organic Pty Ltd and OGA Certified Pty Ltd (T/A Organic Growers of Australia Small Producer Program.

Membership in BFA is open to anyone with an interest in organics. Membership provides a way to:

  • support the organic movement and its principles
  • keep up to date with developments in Australia and overseas
  • access a network of like-minded people; and
  • have a role in BFA's future.

BFA members receive:

  • two quarterly publications and e-newsletters
  • market research reports
  • discounts on products and services
  • invitations to organic workshops and networking events; and
  • advice on all things organic.
