Campbell Scientific Australia  introduces a new lighting warning system designed to continuously monitor the local electric field, automatically triggering visual and audible alarms to indicate potential for lightning strikes.

The LW110 lightning warning system can continuously monitor the local electric field in an 8-11km radius, with the alerts based on measurements of the electric field instead of prior strikes, allowing the system to detect lightning danger before the strikes occur.

By measuring the electric field at any location, the LW110 removes the guesswork from critical decisions, such as when to seek shelter from the approaching storm and when activities can be resumed.

Campbell Scientific’s LW110 lightning warning system functions as a protection system for people and equipment across various segments. Outdoor spectator events such as ball games, golf tours and soccer matches can use this system to protect players and fans while public swimming pools and other outdoor venues also benefit from the advance warning system.

Ideal for industrial facilities, the LW110 lightning warning system helps protect personnel working in exposed locations. Facilities dealing with explosives or fuels can take protective measures when warned of lightning danger.

Key features of LW110 lightning warning system:

  • Uses CS110 electric field monitor to measure atmospheric electric field using a reciprocating shutter
  • RA100 strobe and siren alarm or RA110 remote alarm system for visual and audible alarms
  • RA100 consists of red, amber and blue strobes and a siren
  • RA110 can be installed several miles from the electric field monitor
  • Can be customised to fit specific requirements
  • Several mounting, power supply and communication options available
  • Optional SG000 Strike Guard lightning sensor monitors actual lightning strikes as far as 32km away
  • Meteorological sensors can be added for system to serve as a standard weather station and lightning warning system
