All new Case IH Steiger 400 does the work of 2 older tractors

Danny runs mixed farming enterprise Wilani Pastoral, alongside his father and brother.  The enterprise’s cropping mix includes 1,800 hectares of wheat, 800 hectares of winter cereals and 400 hectares of irrigated rice as well as a flock of 6,000 prime lambs.  

The new Steiger 400 tractor will be set to work ploughing and sowing the land, replacing the 2 oldr tractors that were previously used for the job.  

Danny explains that now that the seasons have taken a turn for the better, trading in the 2 older tractors for the new Steiger 400 offers many long term benefits and makes good business sense.  

Danny anticipates that by introducing the new Steiger 400 business will benefit in a number of ways, including:

• improved accuracy of inter-row sowing thanks to standard fitted precision ag technology
• greatly reduced input costs reduced overlap, leading to reduced fertilizer costs
• improved reliability
• fuel savings
• enhanced operator comfort, and 
• increased power and productivity.  

Danny says “The new Steiger 400 will give us the same horsepower output as our older tractors, but with a 12.9-litre engine, compared to our older 15-litre models,”  

The range of six all new Steiger tractor models have been tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab, with preliminary results confirming their fuel-saving ability.  When compared to the John Deere 9430, the larger Steiger 450 model tractor had the following results:

• 6% more fuel efficient at maximum drawbar pull
• 11% more fuel efficient at 75% drawbar pull, and
• 6% more fuel efficient at standard speed PTO operation.
