Commercial cattle from Coolana Stud
Coolana Stud is a provider of healthy commercial cattle, Angus seedstock and prime lamb sheep from ewe flocks and other cropping programmes that balance grazing operations. Coolana Stud covers about 6500 acres of land and is subdivided into 82 paddocks to run prime lamb enterprise and an Angus seedstock cattle operation in addition to cropping operations.
The field used at Coolana Stud gets approximately 21inch, 550 millimetres of rain, the soil types are spilt by the Hopkins River. This makes the property suitable for livestock business. As for grazing, Coolana Stud has moved from set stocking into a rotational grazing operation with its 1800 ewes and 130 cows mobs. This rotational grazing is beneficial in feeding into the lambing period and only a few paddock need to be checked for flies, water and other problems.
At Coolana Stud stocks are regularly moved and monitored. About 6000 ewes are lambed to provide prime lambs from Corriedale, East Fresian and Texel breeds. Coolana Stud’s sheep business is focused in producing prime lambs by providing Coles. These lambs are processed in the lamb feedlots and summer crops.
