Healthy cattle from Coolana Stud
Coolana Stud provides healthy cattle even during tough drought seasons. Cows weighing from 550 to 600 kilograms are currently available for weaning. Calves at Coolana Stud are weaned under the ELMS early weaning protocol. These are kept in the yard for 7 to 10 days.
Calves that weigh above 140 kilograms are trucked to Hamilla Downs. It is a property at Meningie that was brought by Coolana Stud in early 2006. Claves that weighs less than 140 kilograms are kept at Coolana Stud and are feed everyday to increase their weight to 140 kilograms. Later these calves are also trucked.
Bulls from Coolana Stud are fed with silage, even during drought conditions so animals are fed with balanced diet. Coolana Stud follows advanced genetic programmes in breeding animals and in maintaining healthy commercial lot for Coolana Stud customers.
Spring lambs at Coolana Stud are weaned during the early stage to protect the body weight of ewe. Approximately 1200 lambs in the feedlot were fed with barley crops. Breeding ewes at Coolana Stud are into paddocks for sacrificing. About 700 to 2000 ewes are fed with barley on a daily basis and with hay for 2 times a week.
