The Deer Industry Association of Australia (DIAA) represents farmers, processors, transporters, breed organisations and any other individuals or groups involved in the deer breeding industry.

DIAA acts on behalf of the deer breeding industry by discussing and debating relevant issues with Government agencies, the media and other regulatory bodies.

In particular, the breeding association works in conjunction with the Government to develop protocols that govern the export of venison and velvet products, as well as determining the use of levy funds.

A quarterly magazine entitled ‘Deer Farming Australia’ is compiled and distributed by the breeding association for the benefit of its members.

The magazine contains useful information relating to the deer breeding industry including latest news pieces, specific breed facts, reports, studies and even recipes.

Association membership brings with it many benefits, including:

  • The ability to attend Zone and Branch meetings, which are attended by committee representatives and other deer breeders/members
  • Voting rights
  • Opportunities to communicate and engage in discussion with other deer breeders
  • Free subscription to the quarterly magazine
  • Free membership to the National Velvet Accreditation Scheme (NVAS)
  • Free advice and information regarding the deer breeding industry

The association owns Australian Deer Horn & Co-Products Pty Ltd (ADH&CP), a company that operates velvet pools free of cost for the benefit of deer breeders.

This process provides breeders with grading sheets that contain information relating to the weight and grade of their deer products.

Over the years the quality of deer produced by breeders has improved dramatically as a result of this practice.

New members are welcomed, and they may attain either associate or full membership.
