John Gilmour, Horticulture Business Manager at Dow AgroSciences Australia  has been recognised as an industry leader by AUSVEG.

John received the prestigious Industry Leader Award at the recent AUSVEG National Awards in Hobart. John has an ongoing interest in providing mentoring and training opportunities to support the future generation of vegetable growers in Australia.

AUSVEG Chairman, John Brent describes John Gilmour as ‘an outstanding leader within the Australian vegetable and potato industries’.

Mr Brent explains that John has worked with them on a number of industry issues, including minor use crop protectants, which is an issue of great importance to AUSVEG members. He was also instrumental in organising briefings of Australian vegetable growers by senior US-based Dow AgroSciences’ management, an invaluable opportunity for the Australian vegetable community to learn about what the company has to offer their industry.

John Gilmour, in his acceptance speech said that it was critical to support young growers by listening and working with them to ensure a viable future for Australia’s horticultural industry. Dow AgroSciences worked with AUSVEG earlier this year to host a tour of young growers at their facilities in Indianapolis, USA, where they met with senior staff to learn more about product solutions for the future.

As an international company committed to research and development, Dow AgroSciences recognises the importance of giving young growers the tools they need to enable them to do the job of growing vegetables in an environment that is more challenging than that experienced by the previous generation.

According to John, younger growers are also driving change in the industry, demanding softer, more targeted products, to which Dow AgroSciences has responded with products such as Success NEO and Transform insecticides.

AUSVEG Communications and Public Affairs Manager, William Churchill, added that John’s willingness to share information on Dow AgroSciences’ new pipeline products is further testament to his commitment to the future of the industry.
