The inagural Science and Growth Awards (SGA) are an initiative of the Primary Industry Centre for Science Education (PICSE), and are sponsored by Dow AgroSciences Australia . The awards represent the organisation's commitment to attracting young people into careers in agricultural science.

Recent figures have revealed that fewer children are choosing to study science related disciplines for their Higher School Certificate. The agricultural science industry is already confronting a critical skills shortage, and these result suggest that the situation could worsen. As a result Dow AgroSciences have sponsored the PICSE's initiative in an attempt to promote science as an exciting subject and subsequently reverse the stastics.

The Science for Growth Awards will take place exclusively online and entrants must use appropriate experiments to test a scientic hypothesis that they have presented themselves. Scientists and industry representatives will then judge a PowerPoint poster that has been created using the findings. To assist students in their investigations, an online support forum has been established and students will have online contact with a science teacher as well as other students undertaking an investigation.

Registration for the awards are currently open in New south Wales and Queensland, before the Science and Growth Awards are launched nationally in 2013.

Further infomation regarding entry deadlines and competition prizes is available via the website.
