Dow AgroSciences expands relationship with Victoria to create crop innovation program

Supplier News
Dow AgroSciences Australia  has entered into a new research collaboration with the Victoria Department of Primary Industries to develop novel plant genetics tools designed to increase crop performance. This collaboration will benefit farmers in Australia as well as around the world.

Under the agreement, Dow AgroSciences will work with the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) through its commercial arm, Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd to apply transformational technologies for developing elite crop varieties for growers around the world.

The collaboration builds upon the current research and development program in plant genomics between DPI and Dow AgroSciences, which was initiated in 2009 to develop new crop varieties with improved productivity, agronomic and product quality traits.

According to Professor German Spangenberg, Executive Director, Biosciences Research Division, Department of Primary Industries, Dow AgroSciences is a global leader in agricultural biotechnology and its commitment to research and development in plant genomics makes this an ideal collaboration for DPI scientists.

The research is expected to generate significant benefits for Australian growers while also contributing to advances in global food security.

Spangenberg also said that Dow AgroSciences’ decision to further its investment in Victoria confirmed the world-class standing of DPI’s scientists and research infrastructure. The research program would be based at DPI’s research facilities at Horsham and the new $230 million Centre for AgriBiosciences currently under construction at Bundoora.

Daniel R. Kittle, Ph.D., global leader, R&D, Dow AgroSciences adds that their existing collaboration with DPI has yielded impressive results, which will continue with the expanded partnership between the two organisations as they develop novel solutions for some of the most important challenges in the agriculture industry.

Dow AgroSciences develops leading-edge crop protection and plant biotechnology solutions to meet the challenges of the growing world.
