Dow AgroSciences welcomes young Australian scientist to experience New Zealand research station

article image New Zealand will host Brydie Creagh, one of Australia’s most talented young scientists this week at the global Dow AgroSciences Research Station

Sponsored by Dow AgroSciences , Brydie Creagh, one of Australia’s brightest young future scientists, will be spending a week at its world renowned Waireka Global Discovery Research Station, 15 km south of New Plymouth on the North Island of New Zealand.  

Dow AgroSciences is a key sponsor of Australia’s Primary Industry Centre for Science Education (PICSE) and this industry placement is part of a travel scholarship that it funds, to promote careers in agricultural science to students across Australia.  

The 17-year-old student was chosen, from over 100 Australian high school students with various 2011 PICSE scholarships, for her passion and commitment to agricultural science.  

At the new Zealand research station Brydie will get the chance to work alongside international researchers investigating the next generation of chemicals for plant protection that are being developed by Dow AgroSciences specifically for international growers and producers of vegetables, fruit and cereal.  

Brydie explains, “I’m hoping that the trip will help me to fine-tune my specific areas of interest in agricultural science, which will benefit me when I commence my Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Australia in March this year.”  

According to Dr Matt Cahill, Dow AgroSciences Research and Development Leader for Australia and New Zealand, Brydie will also benefit form the opportunity to work with Dr Courtney Gallup.  

Dr Gallup, a Dow AgroSciences plant pathologist from the United States, is one of the newest international researchers to join the team at Waireka.  

Brydie will be available for interview during her placement, which runs from Monday January 30 until Friday 3 February.
