Breeding programmes from Eaglehawk Angus
Augus studs play an important role in Eaglehawk Angus business. Eaglehawk Angus has based its herd primarily on Te Mania bloodlines. Cowherds at Eaglehawk Angus are efficient, fertile and easy fleshing cows which produce more than the required amount of milk.
The cows and heifers join young (14 months) and cull rigorously. They undergo a pregnancy test and those which fail to carry are culled. Eaglehawk Angus does not cull for age. Eaglehawk Angus also believes in the fact that the older cow will meet all requirements and breed longevity into the herd.
The cows of Eaglehawk Angus are taken care under commercial conditions and no exceptions are made with reference to poor performances. Eaglehawk does not carry on the non-productive females, as this would only result in infertility in the herd.
Eaglehawk Angus follows a certain checklist and also advises its clients to follow this in order to realize a cow herd that would stay commercially viable. Eaglehawk Angus advises to join cows with one of the health bulls available. Eaglehawk Angus also recommends its customers to join for the cows for three cycles.
