Comprised of alpaca breeders in the Mornington Peninsula region of Victoria, Mornington Peninsula Alpaca Breeders develops and promotes alpacas bred in the region.
Seventeen alpaca studs with a collective number of 500 alpacas, all of which are located within 20kms of the Mornington Peninsula are catered to by the association.
These studs include Avon Park Alpacas, Hidden Lake Alpacas, Talca Alpacas and Pitchingga Ridge Alpacas.
The association provides alpaca breeders with an effective support system, along with the opportunity to discuss matters of relevance to the alpaca breeding industry with one another.
Alpaca breeders in the region span a diverse range of properties and pastures and utilise different agistment facilities and animal husbandry techniques.
These adoption of unique breeding practices ensure that the alpacas produced in the region are not only of a high quality, they represent a diverse range of alpaca breeds and colours.
These include black, white and coloured Suri alpacas, as well as Huacaya alpacas in a range of colours.
The association website features an Alpaca Trader, which provides alpaca breeders with the opportunity to buy, sell and swap their alpacas for breeding or other purposes.
Promotion of alpacas from the region and the high quality fibre they produce is achieved by showcasing them at industy shows and events and providing the broader community with information about the alpaca breeding industry in the region, among others.
