This Thursday, Senator Doug Cameron will officially launch the 44 Gallons Small Business Online program in Armidale. The free workshops are designed to help small businesses make the most of online business opportunities.
Armidale businesswoman Fiona Ballard has participated in the 44 Gallons workshops and will now facilitate the training in her home region. “Participating in the course was a real light bulb moment for me,” she says.
“Having seen the same frustrations time and time again, I was amazed at how well delivered the information was and the practical nature in which the training was done.
“I’ve seen small businesses spend over $20,000 on their website alone. The 44 Gallons Small Business Online workshops gave me all the online information I needed to do it myself, for free. I’m thrilled to be a part of the program and help our local businesses get themselves online,” she continued.
According to AdNews, Australian e-commerce is dominated by small to medium sized businesses. The concern is that businesses in regional areas aren’t keeping up due to a lack of technology resources and education.
Katherine Smith, Managing Director of 44 Gallons emphasises the necessity for all small businesses, especially those in regional areas, to be online. “There are huge opportunities which aren’t being taken advantage of, because small businesses, particularly in regional areas, aren’t online and they’re missing out,” Katherine says.
“The area our workshops cover is home to over 30,000 small businesses. Because the training is so practical, easy to enrol in and most importantly free, we’re expecting a really positive response.”
The pilot workshops saw 117 individual businesses benefit from hands-on, flexible and interactive training, facilitated by industry experts. 110 businesses are already signed up for the workshops to be held in the New England and Northern Inland regions in coming weeks.
Businesses can find dates and locations of workshops and register for the free training online. The workshops will be held one day a month during August, September and October in Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Bingara, Moree, Narrabri and Gunnedah.
To be eligible, participants must be the owner or employee of a business with an ABN and must have a reasonable working knowledge of the internet and business software application such as Microsoft Office.
