If I could change one thing about Australia I would…

“....be thankful for all the good things Australia has to offer and promote Australian initiatives and innovation from rural and urban areas overseas.”

So answered A. Neale of QLD, winner of Fatcow.com.au’s survey of rural and regional Australians. He received an iPad 2 for his efforts.

1030 people took part in the survey and the responses covered some familiar themes, like education, government, sustainability, immigration, employment, and infrastructure.

Some answers were funny:

“Make political news only available at 12:01am on a Monday morning of a 29th of February in a leap-year. And only For That Minute.” - K. MacGibbon, VIC

While others were more reflective:

“Implement an approach to our society being given a 'hand up' rather than a 'hand out' to get back to a country of opportunity.” - A. Murray, QLD

And even though there were a number of angry uncompassionate comments in the mix, most answers were thoughtful and most responses were genuine. As a whole, the exercise proved to be worthwhile.

The survey was carried out over the months of August, September and beginning of October and all participants were over the age of 18. It covered all states and territories of Australia and all demographics were represented.
