Supplier News

Hazeldean Angus  is a pastoral enterprise which is owned by the Litchfield family. Started in 1865, Hazeldean Angus is involved in the breeding of sheep. Hazeldean Angus has established various breeding centers and grow out centers in various locations throughout Australia. The company was introduced in 1927 with the purchase of Angus females. Calf heifers were imported by Hazeldean Angus from New Zealand.

Hazeldean Angus purchased some of the best commercial cows for upgrading its bull unit. Hazeldean Angus has, thus, provided a number of high performing, high quality commercial Angus bulls for the beef industry.

Hazeldean Angus adapted the Performance Testing concept in 1960. The company utilised the measured weight of the animal as a criterion for selection procedures. Selection based on this factor remains popular even today. The animals with optimal and higher weights were found to have a faster progress.

Hazeldean Angus is now involved in artificial insemination. The company undertakes about 1200 procedures every year. Through this procedure of artificial insemination, Hazeldean Angus can acquire quality breeds. Apart from this, the company tests progenies and breeds of all types. Over four hundred embryos are transferred from Hazeldean Angus to recipient females in the course of its artificial insemination procedures.
