Keech Castings  has invested in a $3 million upgrade at its No 2 Foundry in Bendigo, Victoria. The upgrade aims to dramatically increase production targets and help bolster its position in the agricultural market as a major manufacturer of seeding components.

Garth Keech, Director, Manufacturing explains that the increase in output will enable the company to offer better value to Australian farmers. In addition to increasing production targets alone, Keech aims to build on its history of innovation and reputation as an Australian manufacturer committed to the supply of hard wearing parts of consistent quality.

Keech was one of the earliest manufacturers of direct drilling and deep tillage parts, having launched their first product line in 1968. The company retains its reputation for quality using hardened alloy steel and 500 Brinell, the hardest and toughest steel on the market. Keech also produces components with tungsten carbide tips and Keetuff, a weld-on metal configuration containing tungsten particles for extra wear life to meet the needs of growers operating in extremely tough environments.

To ensure the strength of all products, the Keech range is cast in an arc furnace, which removes unwanted elements such as sulphur, phosphorous, hydrogen and nitrogen from the steel.

Mixed farmer, Steven Deutcher has used the system for the past 15 years on his 3000-hectare property of which around 200 hectares have extremely tough, rocky soils making it difficult to sow their annual mix of barley, wheat and oats. He explains that having heavy duty drilling points allows them to sow directly into all soil types including the rocky areas to maximise the use of their land.

Keech’s range of direct drilling points includes knife blades, single shoot seeding points and winged seeding points varying in length, width and angle to suit individual seeding systems and soil types.

Deep tillage components include a wide selection of shank assemblies and accessories with optional tungsten tips for growers working in tough soil types.
