Kilmainhan  was established a kennel in 1974 with the purchase of a bitch Aust Ch Robustian Morthisa which descended from the English kennel, Granemore. Kilmainhan has imported dogs from the UK and New Zealand to extend its bloodlines which includes Aust Ch Torum's Kirby Dan, Aust Ch The Chairman at Kamaghand and NZ Ch One Blue dog. Kilmainhan has exported the puppies to the overseas market.

Kilmainhan offers senior bulls, junior bulls and a selected number of females. Kilmainhan breeds commercially viable cattle that meet both local and international market requirements. Kilmainhan takes part in the SA Beef Field Days every year.

In 2006, about six bulls and a pen of heifers were sold by Kilmainhan. Kilmainhan purchased a soft but well-muscled bull at the 2006 Willalooka Annual Production Sale. The bull is a soft grey animal bull with a frame score of 6.5 and weighed about 816 kilograms. The bull is two years old and shows good carcase and structural characteristics. The bull also has near perfect feet, pasterns and leg set. The bull was ranked on the 6th place in the top 100 junior sires for long fed export.
