The Marellan and Royalla Shorthorn studs have enjoyed great success commercially, as well as in the showrings of Australia. Genetics from the herd have performed outstandingly in North America and in New Zealand as well. Our herd revolves around the very strong maternal lines, many of which were present before the cattle were registered. Many of the breed's most influential cow families originated on Marellan, including the Isobels, Muriels, Joyces and Idas. We have sought the best of other lines including Carnations and Margies. Our cattle are bred to perform in all commercial situations. Maternal traits, fertility, muscling, calving ease, easy fleshing and structural correctness are traits which are economically important in all beef producing areas. Add to this marbling capabilities, along with other meat quality characteristics, and you have cattle to meet all market requirements. Good cattle are good cattle, no matter where they are. Commercially sound cattle should be competitive in the show ring, but must be commercial cattle first. This is what we produce at Marellan and Royalla
