In order to represent Morgan horses in Australia more specifically, the Morgan Horse Association of Australia Inc (MHAA) was formed in 1990.

The MHAA is recognised, and has strong affiliations with, the American Morgan Horse Association.

The primary aims of the association are as follows:

  • Encourage and promote Morgan horses for breeding and use.
  • Maintain the records that contain information about all Morgan horses registered with the association – both pure and part bred.
  • Ensure these records are up to date, accurate and honest.
  • Encourage the education and training of members, juniors and officials.

The MHAA is responsible for organising the Australian National Morgan Show, an event that provides breeders across Australia with the opportunity to exhibit their Morgan horses.

The show has been held in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.

Insightful seminars that cover topics such as breeding, nutrition and show preparation, horse demonstrations and a harness training weekend specifically for members are among the other events held by the MHAA.

Apart from this, the association promotes Morgan horses by showcasing them at breed and stallion parades, featuring on information stands at horse related events and by producing articles for publication in well-respected Australian horse magazines.

The MHAA also produces ‘The Morgan Messenger’ a bi-monthly newsletter, and an annual magazine, ‘The Morgan Corroboree.’

The MHAA is comprised of approximately 150 members and has a Board of five people.

The following membership types are offered by the association:

  • Associate
  • Ordinary, family/stud, corporate
  • Junior

Membership lasts one year, and must be renewed before January 31st each year.
