Pro-Ma Fuel and Oil Additives highlight water control in fuel systems

Supplier News

Pro-Ma Fuel and Oil Additives  know that water in fuel tanks and fuel systems can be destructive, causing rust, corrosion and sludge.

If visible water is present in petrol fuel tanks or fuel systems, then drain or pump out as much of the water as possible. After draining the water, Pro-Ma Fuel and Oil Additives recommend treating the petrol fuel tank with Pro-Ma Performance Petrol/Gasoline Treatment.

Pro-Ma Performance Petrol/Gasoline Treatment will break the surface tension of the water to less than one micron in size (one millionth of a metre, or .00004 of an inch). In this form the water will be able to pass harmlessly through the fuel system, and be disposed of through the exhaust as steam.

Pro-Ma Performance Petrol/Gasoline Treatment will absorb six times its own volume of water. About 10% will be held in suspension, whilst the remainder will drop to the bottom, but with its surface tension broken.

Water in diesel fuel tanks and fuel systems can pose a bigger problem due to contamination by microbiological marine organisms during shipping and transfer to bulk terminals. These organisms can multiply rapidly in diesel fuel tanks, particularly in boats, choking fuel filters in a short time.

If water becomes apparent in diesel fuel tanks or fuel systems, drain or pump out all the visible water and treat the system with Pro-Ma Performance Diesel Treatment.

Pro-Ma Performance Diesel Treatment will break the surface tension of the water to less than one micron, and it can be slowly and harmlessly removed from the system and disposed of as steam. The remaining water will drop to the bottom of the tank with its surface tension broken, and fuel recirculation and vehicle movement will suspend minute quantities in the fuel for similar disposal.

As with the petrol treatment, the diesel treatment will remove six times its own volume of water. Any remaining sludge or organisms will be slowly dissolved by the Pro-Ma Performance Diesel Treatment and be burnt along with the fuel.

Pro-Ma Performance Petrol/Gasoline and Diesel Treatments do not contain biocides which kill the organisms but allow sludge to drop to the bottom of the tank which will choke the system unless it is removed.

The continual use of Pro-Ma Performance Petrol/Gasoline and Diesel Treatments is a way of protecting a petrol or diesel fuel system. Their surfactants and solvents will work continuously to control water and other fuel system contaminants to extend component life, and maintain engine efficiency while improving fuel economy.
