Antibiotics continue to play a vital role in human; plant and animal health, say the presenters and participants at a recent symposium in the US.

The event, aptly named “A One Health Approach to Antimicrobial Use & Resistance: a Dialogue for a Common Purpose,” involved the debate and discussion of a range of issues of relevance to antimicrobial resistance.

According to The National Hog Farmer, all agreed that antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic use are two factors that all health communities, whether they be human, animal or environmental, must manage and be held accountable for.

Similarly, in order to develop solutions to anti-microbial resistance, the communities must bind together and share their findings, knowledge and insights.

Antimicrobial resistance to antibiotics has been well documented, and the issue is ongoing. It is as much the result of the use as it is the misuse and overuse of the drug.

Impressively, each of the separate communities agreed that “the finger pointing and blame for antimicrobial resistance need[s] to end,” as they all work together to achieve a common goal.

Phibro Animal Health offers a range of antibiotics for poultry, swine, dairy cattle and beef cattle.

Neo-Terramycin

Suitable for use with poultry, swine, dairy cattle and beef cattle, this broad-spectrum antibiotic contains two anti-infective agents.

It is comprised of oxytetracycline, a powerful agent that is proven to protect animals from infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Neomycin also forms part of this powerful antibiotic. It is particularly effective in combating Gram-negative bacteria such as salmonella.

Stafac

Is an anti-infective that can be used in both poultry and swine feeds.

It helps to ensure animals have a healthy balance of bacteria in their intestines by controlling microflora levels in the upper small intestine. This improves feed efficiency and subsequently enhances weight gain.

Terramycin

Is a broad-spectrum anti-infective antibiotic that effectively protects poultry, swine, dairy cattle and beef cattle from infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

It works effectively in the bloodstream and gastrointestinal tract.

CLTC

This particular antibiotic is designed for the specific purpose of treating bacterial enteritis in calves.

V-Max

When placed in cattle feed and subsequently ingested by the animals this antibiotic can effectively reduce liver abscesses.
