Rabobank  Australia & New Zealand announces the appointment of Sarah Sivyer as the senior animal proteins analyst in its Food & Agribusiness Research and Advisory (FAR) division.

Announcing the new appointment, Rabobank general manager for the bank’s FAR division Luke Chandler said Sarah would be a valuable asset to the research team given her experience across a range of agricultural industries. In addition to being involved hands-on with the strategic running of her family cattle property in the Hunter Valley, NSW, she has also built a career working with leading global agricultural companies.

Mr Chandler expects Sarah’s local and global perspective on agriculture to be important for their clients who are operating at all levels of the supply chain.

Ms Sivyer’s responsibilities will include high quality research of the animal proteins sector comprising of beef, sheepmeat and pork, supporting Rabobank’s analysis of key markets in the food and agricultural sectors in the region.

Ms Sivyer has previously worked with the World Bank as an agribusiness consultant responsible for reviewing the Australian and New Zealand agri markets as well as for the crop protection company Syngenta as the food security agenda manager, based in Switzerland. Ms Sivyer holds an MBA from Oxford University.

Ms Sivyer is keen to continue contributing to the agricultural industry as part of the research team at Rabobank.

She observes that from a ‘protein perspective’, Australia and New Zealand are entering an increasingly important era when it comes to the supply and demand equation for agricultural products. With protein consumption increasing in emerging markets, Australia and New Zealand have an important role in supplying those markets.

From a global food security perspective, as the population grows to nine billion by 2050, the world will need to sustainably increase agricultural production by around 70% with protein consumption also playing a key role in the growth story.

The world’s leading food and agribusiness bank, Rabobank is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest rural banks and a major provider of corporate financial services to the region’s food and agribusiness sector. The FAR division is a dedicated unit within Rabobank, which undertakes research into the food and agribusiness sectors.
