Agricultural belts work in the heaviest conditions possible meaning that it is important to only use belts that have been specifically designed for use on agricultural applications. These belts have been built to specifications that are capable of withstanding farming harsh conditions.
- The agricultural belts are rugged and durable and have been designed with the following factors in mind, to:
- withstand the constant sunlight and hot temperatures that combine harvesters and tractors are regularly subjected to;
- effectively work with the comparatively small tensioners that are common in agricultural machinery;
- endure the significant additional belt load in terms of deformation and temperature increase; and
- withstand dust, dirt, stones and other objects that often enter between the pulley and the belt.
Gates uses a number of design features to ensure the durability of its belts. These features include an advanced chemical treatment for improved tensile bonding, premium aramid or polyester tensile members for maximum elongation resistance and a multilayer elastomeric building process for better cord support.
