The Santa Gertrudis Breeder’s Australia Association is involved in the breeding, registration and promotion of the Santa Gertrudis cattle breed.

The association maintains the Santa Gertrudis cattle Stud Book, a publication that contains information about all registered purebred cattle.

The Stud Book also contains an Appendix Register so multiple bred purebred or third cross cattle may be recorded.

The association determines whether an animal may be eligible for registration based on a variety of factors, including genetics and whether they possess attributes that are unique to the cattle breed.

In order to be registered an animal must have descended from a sire or dam that is already registered in the Stud Book.

The association is also responsible for maintaining a Progeny Register, which records details, including birth date, prefix and tattoo number, of registered calves.

A glossy magazine ‘Santa Gertrudis Australia’ is produced and distributed by the association each May, August and December.

The publication provides both association members and the general public with the news relevant to the industry, along with information regarding upcoming events, new products and services.

Those interested in becoming a member of the association may apply by submitting a membership application, which will be reviewed and either approved or declined by the General Manager in conjunction with the Council.

Ordinary, commercial, associate and junior membership types are available.

The association organises and publicises stud and commercial sales at regular intervals throughout the country, as well as field days, open days and competitions in order to promote the cattle breed.
