Schaffer 2020 Front End Loader

A strong, but compact range of front end loaders, made in Germany, is making its mark in Australia.   Schaffer front end loaders, which range in power from 20hp (14.7kW) to 130hp (73kW), have filled a gap in the marketplace for well built, well priced, highly manoeuvrable front end loaders able to run over 50 attachments.

Schaffer Loaders says it designed its new range of front end loaders to provide maximum performance in minimum space and have been in the front end loader business for over 50 years.

Only the best componentry is used in their front end loader ‘s with Bosch-Rexroth industrial hydraulics, ZF axles and Kubota engines.

Customers of Schaffer Loaders so far have included Canning City Council, which uses a mid-range skid steer substitute machine to pick up green waste from verges, and an Oakford nursery owner, who uses a smaller front end loader to move bags of fertiliser and shovel coal (for a furnace).

Another very happy customer is Tony Carter, who, along with his partner Lorraine, is developing a garden at their 25-acre property, called Dymesbury Nature Park, at King River, about nine kilometres from Albany.

The Carters, who moved to the property about 18 months ago, provide bed and breakfast accommodation in their modern, comfortable homestead, while the gardens are a popular venue for wedding ceremonies.

Tony, who formerly ran a rural machinery business in Albany for fifteen years, says he bought the Schaffer 2020 - the smallest front end loader in the range - because it was much better than anything else that he had seen. He was particularly impressed by the quality of steel used in the framework and lifting gear.

“It’s a wonderful little front end loader,” Tony says. It’s highly manoeuvrable and versatile. It can get in anywhere, it has a good load carrying capacity and it’s very convenient. It’s only small, but it’s all we need.”

Tony has been using the front end loader for gardening work, maintenance and cleaning up the forest floor. The unique, picturesque property includes some native forest, with huge karris and lots of wattle trees, as well as some European trees, such as oaks. Native birds and animals are common on the property, which has a pool, fed by a fresh water creek.

Tony is developing the garden next to an avenue of magnolia trees, which were planted almost 100 years ago. Tony’s main focus at present is establishing flowers, especially roses, on a series of terraces. He has found the Schaffer front end loader to be ideal for manoeuvring in and out of the terraces.

Tony says one of the best benefits is that it doesn’t dig up the ground like skid steers and has a very comfortable ride due to the long wheel base.

Other jobs he has used his front end loader for include road building and constructing sand pads for several aviaries (keeping exotic birds is one of his hobbies). Tony says the little front end loader has saved him and Lorraine a lot of time and hard work. “If we had done the work manually, it would have taken two years. But we’ve done it in two months. The front end loader has removed the physical side from the gardening.”

Tony has added a Bigfoot Digga chain trencher to his list of accessories to operate from his font end loader.
