Fongarid 250 WP systemic fungicide from Syngenta

Fongarid 250 WP, available from Syngenta , is a systemic fungicide with protective and curative properties.

Uses:
Fongarid 250 WP is effective against Damping Off and Root Rot diseases caused by Pythium and Phytophthora fungi, which inhabit the soil and infect many ornamental flowers, shrubs and trees.

Soil-borne diseases:

Pythium and Phytophthora
Potting soil should be first treated using steam sterilisation procedures. After sterilisation treat potting soil with Fongarid 250 WP before plant or repotting. Follow up with 2 soil drench treatments at 8 to 12 week intervals.

For control of soil-borne diseases, it is essential that Fongarid 250 WP is evenly distributed in the root zone of treated plants. This can be achieved by mixing with the soil or watering in.

Fongarid 250 WP can give approximately 6 to 10 weeks protection from soil-borne disease attack, depending on the rate applied, soil type and cultural practice.

Plants already infected may recover following treatment with Fongarid 250 WP, provided the roots and vascular system are not already too severely damaged.

Important:

  • Fongarid 250 WP has caused injury to some species of Banksia, Grevillea, ornamental stone fruit and Chinese Fire Fern and should not be applied to these species. Tolerance of plants to this product appears to be greater in heavy soils than in light soils.
  • While Fongarid 250 WP will control Pythium and Phytophthora it is not effective against other soil-borne diseases such as Rhizoctonia, Botrytis and Fusarium. Appropriate treatments for the control of these diseases must therefore be made.

Mixing:
Add the required amount of Fongarid 250 WP directly to water and keep in suspension by regular agitation.

Compatibility:
Fongarid 250 WP should not be mixed with any other chemicals.

Fungicide resistance warning:
Fongarid 250 WP systemic fungicide is a member of the phenylamide group of fungicides. For fungicide resistance management Fongarid is a Group D fungicide.

Some naturally occurring individual fungi resistant to Fongarid and other Group D fungicides may exist through normal genetic variability in any fungal population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the fungi population if these fungicides are used repeatedly.

These resistant fungi will not be controlled by Fongarid and other Group D fungicides, thus resulting in a reduction in efficacy and possible yield loss.

Since the occurrence of resistant fungi is difficult to detect prior to use, Syngenta Crop Protection accepts no liability for any losses that may result from the failure of Fongarid to control resistant fungi.

Protection of wildlife, fish, crustacea and environment
Do not contaminate streams, rivers or waterways with the chemical or used containers

Storage and disposal
Store Fongarid 250 WP in the closed, original container in a dry, cool and well ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. Rinse containers before disposal.

Add rinsing to spray tank. Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on site. Dispose of at a local authority landfill. If no landfill is available, bury the containers below 500mm in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots. Empty containers and product should not be burnt.
