National equine dentistry standards will help the horse

Supplier News

The Australasian Association of Equine Dentistry AAED  believe that national competencies for equine dentistry at Certificate IV and Diploma level will help horse welfare.

Currently there is a huge range of skills and experience in the equine dental industry but no national qualifications or standards for training. This makes it difficult for the average horse owner to decide who is best qualified to help their horse.

A draft set of national equine dentistry competencies is now available for public comment. The development of the competencies has been managed for over two years by AgriFood Skills Australia.

“There is a lot of misinformation being circulated at the moment which in the long run will not help the horse,” says AAED President Sue Combridge.

“The ‘tooth’ is that a national qualification in equine dentistry will help look after the horse and protect the public’s right to choose their service provider.”
