Thoroughbred Breeders Western Australia (TBWA) is responsible for the representation of thoroughbred horse breeders and the thoroughbred breeding industry in the state of Western Australia.
The association is involved in promoting the West Australian thoroughbred industry on a national and international scale with the aim of developing new markets for thoroughbreds.
There has been a particular emphasis on promoting these thoroughbreds in South-East Asia and South Africa.
As a result, buyers from these regions now regularly attend yearling sales and in many cases purchase thoroughbreds from Western Australian horse breeders.
Thoroughbred breeders are represented by the association in relation to issues of public policy, as it engages in discussion with Government and other regulatory bodies to ensure thoroughbred horse breeders are considered during the decision-making process.
TBWA is passionate about the further development of the thoroughbred breeding industry in the state, and new breeders are subsequently encouraged.
Western Australia produces a significant amount of high quality thoroughbred horses, and its reputation has improved over recent years.
In 2009, for example, over 2,535 Western Australia thoroughbred mares were registered in the highly prestigious Australian Stud Book.
Twice a year TBWA produces Sunspeed Magazine, a publication specifically for thoroughbred horse breeders and those interested in the industry in Western Australia.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the thoroughbred breeding industry in Western Australia.
In order to attain financial membership individuals are required to pay an annual subscription, which will grant them access to a range of benefits and services.
Registered users are not members of the association as such; however they will have access to all sections of the association’s website if they choose to register with the association.
