Supplier News

Vaughan Constructions  is currently undertaking its tenth cold storage project for Oxford Cold Storage, which continues a strong partnering relationship between the two companies.

Construction of the new cold storage project is due to for completion in June 2010 and will hold approx 23,000 pallets. The project is being developed by Oxfords due to the increasing demand in the market from retailers for freezer space.

Vaughan Constructions have also recently undertaken the building of a 16,000 pallet freezer for Oxfords which was a requirement for George Weston Foods.

Vaughan Constructions carries a reputation for being a leading freezer builder in Australia with now over 80,000m² of freezers and cold storage projects completed.

"Oxford Cold Storage and Vaughan Constructions have worked together since 1994 in expanding Oxford’s Laverton North third-party cold storage facility, to meet the growing requirements of its existing and new customers," says Gabor Hilton, Oxford’s engineering manager.

"During this period, Vaughan Constructions erected seven large chambers complete with loading docks to increase the storage capacity from 10,000 to 110,000 pallets.

"Product flow, operational and energy efficiency, occupational health and safety and future growth were key drivers of the design and construction methods used," adds Hilton.

Hilton describes the relationship with Vaughan Construction as 'a very satisfactory partnership' noting that all the buildings were built to budget and completed on time, and whenever problems occurred after completion of a building, Vaughan Constructions always returned and implemented fast solutions.

Other recent Vaughan Constructions cold storage projects include Murray Goulburn, Woolworths and McCains.

The Murray Goulburn project saw Vaughan Constructions build its international logistics centre, completing the 85,000m² land and building package, which holds 750,000m³ of stock, 13 weeks ahead of time and on budget. Vaughan Constructions built offices, amenities, the warehouse, chiller, ancillary and canopy, and the surrounds.

The massive Woolworths cold storage project, a 67,000m² liquor distribution centre in Laverton North, Melbourne, was also completed on-time despite inclement weather.

In addition, Vaughan Constructions is currently building major flagship distribution centres in both New South Wales & Victoria for ALDI Stores. Both projects are approximately 60,000m² and include freezer and cold storage and will support the German retailers continued expansion into the Australian market.
