Breeding standards of Wye Corriedales

Supplier News

Wye Corriedales , a commercial breeder, specialise in wool production for commercial purpose. The sheep are bred following the balanced genetic techniques to increase growth rate, carcass merit, wool cut and wool quality.

Wye Corriedales concentrate now on breeding stud and flock rams for the commercial lamb producer. The emphasis is on fertility, wool production, heavy cutting soft fleece of 27 to 30 micron and large framed carcass for export. Wye Corriedales follow standard methods to maintain the quality. The sheep at Wye Corriedales are bred to perform in paddock conditions. Non-productive sheep are culled. Weaners are culled based on the type, structure, frame size, wool weight and quality. Selected sheep are large framed, strong boned animals with soft fleece of 27 to 30 micron.

Wye Corriedales are successful at the Royal Adelaide Show from the year 1992. During the year 2007, several champion awards were won in the shows. In the Adelaide Show, September 2007, Wye Corriedales won the Champion Ram and Reserve Champion Ram and Reserve Champion Ewe. Mt. Gambier Show, October 2007, won the most successful exhibitor award.  At the same show, Wye Punter won the Reserve Champion Ram and Wye Roy won the First shorn ram.
