Solar power usage is becoming increasingly widespread in Australia as homeowners choose to install solar panels and report impressive savings on their electricity bills.

Furthermore, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) predicts that electricity prices will rise between 20 and 40 per cent over the next few years, so many are opting to get in early and fork out a little bit extra to avoid these looming price hikes.

While this cost-saving element is no doubt a positive, there are a range of other benefits associated with solar power usage.

Because it utilises natural heat from the sun for its operation, solar power offers an energy efficient alternative to electricity.

This means there is less demand on the grid as homes split their energy usage between the two sources, or they may not require energy from the grid at all.

“Energy efficiency can be seen as an effective, immediate means of meeting energy needs more sustainably through reducing energy demand while maintaining or enhancing function,” explains the Clean Energy Council.

Many fear that if they install solar panels, they will be quite literally left in the dark when the sun isn’t shining. This is a bit of a myth, as most have gas or electric back-up.

This is also the case for Techfence solar powered electric fences from Daken . While they rely on energy from the sun for their operation, they are equipped with battery powered energisers that are designed to be used when weather conditions are less than desirable.

These electric fences similarly allow property owners to enjoy immense cost savings, and they are also of benefit because they do not rely on a mains supply for their operation, which means they can be used in even the most isolated of locations.

This makes them particularly useful on large, remote properties that are often difficult to monitor, as property owners can use them to effectively prevent livestock from escaping and feral animals from imposing.

The electric fences are suitable for cattle, horses, dogs, sheep and goats, and they can be used for small and large scale operations.

There are clearly a number of key benefits associated with the use of solar powered electric fences, including:

  • More affordable electricity bills
  • Protection for even the most remote properties
  • The ability to prevent livestock from escaping
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • Peace of mind knowing that you are contributing to a cleaner, brighter future
