Continuous Monitoring of Fat Content in Meat made simple with New Process Monitoring System

Supplier News

FOSS  has released the XDS Process Analytics™ Direct Light system, a simple-to implement fat monitoring solution allowing meat producers to optimise the use of valuable raw materials, while consistently matching customer expectations.

The XDS Process Analytics Direct Light consists of a pre-calibrated, near infrared scanning device and a process control software system. The scanner works on the same principle as the AOAC-approved FOSS Food- Scan™ analyser, using near infrared light to reveal information about fat content in meat products. But instead of providing results for individual samples from a batch, it continuously scans the surface of ground meat as it flows through the production process.

A constant stream of real-time results is fed to the software system and a software interface prompts the production operator to make any required adjustments according to pre-programmed product recipies. Savings and enhanced product consistency follow.

Rapid Installation and Calibration

The concept of continuous monitoring of fat content in ground meat is not new, but to date, issues related to calibration and integration into existing process setups have proven barriers to simple implementation.

With a small footprint and an accurate pre-calibration that can be quickly adapted to specific requirements by the FOSS worldwide support organisation, the XDS Process Analytics Direct Light system is ideal for small to midsize producers seeking a simple to implement fat control system without the need for in-house experts and lengthy installation procedures. FOSS Meat market manager, Poul Erik Simonson said: “More analysis is coming into the meat industry as producers seek new ways to save in production and consumers demand reliable packaging information, particularly about fat content. Continuous monitoring is a powerful tool and the new XDS system aims to make it an option that is accessible to all.”
