Integrated Recycling Begins a New Green Revolution in Stock Fencing

Supplier News

The stock fencing industry is going green with technology developed in Mildura.

Integrated Recycling, part of the Integrated Packaging Group is involved in the conversion of agricultural waste products into timber substitutes such as fence posts and rails that do not rot, splinter or fall to insect attack.

General Manager Stephen Webster says that the focus is shifting to environmentally-friendly alternatives from conventional fencing products that use timber, metal or wire. This recycling of plastics and polystyrene will prevent entry of more than 400 tonnes of waste plastic into landfills each year.

Key benefits of timber replacement fencing products:

  • High environmental appeal and practical value
  • Recycled fencing products last for a lifetime and are impervious to rot, termites, extreme climates or even chewing by stock
  • Fire-resistant and maintenance-free
  • Recycled fencing products can be drilled, screwed and stapled
  • Unending life cycle: Can be recycled continuously
  • Ideal for electric fences as the recycled fencing products are lightweight and electrified wire can be attached directly to the post

Former Sunraysia vigneron Chris Curran first developed these sustainable fencing alternatives as he worked to promote his organic wines.

Chris recycled old plastic vine covers into chemical-free vine posts. Subsequently, he extended the process to use waste plastic products such as hard plastic, shrink wrap, silage film, polystyrene, polypropylene and shopping bags.

His Ausplaztik company was acquired last year by Integrated Packaging, a leading Australian manufacturer of specialist stretch film wrap and stretch wrapping equipment. Chris remains part of the organisation as its business development manager and the company is now trading as Integrated Recycling.

The company transforms their patented composite mix comprising of shredded plastics and timber fibre into various timber replacement stock fencing products such as posts and rails through a process of heating under pressure.

Other products in the timber replacement range include outdoor furniture, walkways, vine posts, decking, jetties, lawn edging and bollards.

A key advantage of Integrated Recycling’s stock fencing products created using innovative plastic recycling technology is that they are 100% recycled and can be recycled continuously.

Given that chemical residue testing is required in many industries including agriculture, treated pine posts will be gradually eased out of the picture by green stock fencing products that do not leach chemicals into the soil and water.
