The federally funded National Harvest Labour Information Service (NHLIS) was established in 2003 which is operated by MADEC Australia.
As growers often have difficulty finding sufficient workers at harvest time, NHLIS helps to match an itinerant pool of workers with variable seasonal work. A diverse range of organisations, growers and job seekers use this service.
The work of the NHLIS includes:
- Harvest Trail website: provides comprehensive information about harvest opportunities and locations, accommocation, transport and other requirements
- National Harvest Telephone Information Service: Operates on weekdays, providing asnwers to enquiries relevant to harvest labour and to connect callers to appropriate providers
- The National Harvest Guide: Free of charge, the Guide provides job seekers with concise and comprehensive information about harvest work opportunities, working conditions, transport and accommodation
