Agribusiness banking specialist Rabobank has recently appointed Justin Harrison to the role of regional manager - Major Agri Clients for QLD & NT, and manager - Special Projects.

One of the company’s key management team members, Mr Harrison returns to Australia after working for 3½ years in the Executive team for Rabo Agri Finance (RAF) in the United States, which is Rabobank’s equivalent rural lending business in North America.

Rabobank state manager for QLD/NT Brad James said the skills and experience developed by Justin in the United States with Rabo Agri Finance will help them bring some of the insights from their North American business into the local and existing initiatives in Australia.

During Mr Harrison’s tenure in RAF, the business network expanded from 20 to 57 offices. He helped establish a very successful marketing division to complement the business and was aided by Rabobank QLD/NT marketing manager Gen McAulay and the bank’s Australia & New Zealand-based Food and Agribusiness Research and Advisory team to enhance the profile of Rabo Agri Finance (RAF) in key US markets.

About his experience with RAF, Mr Harrison said that he was able to learn a great deal about the functioning of the North American agricultural industry, which is a powerhouse and a major producer of food and fibre in the world. Having helped grow the Rabo Agri Finance footprint across North America since 2011, developing the business and introducing producers to the global footprint of Rabobank, he now looks forward to the next chapter in Australia, sharing knowledge and insight from the North American agricultural industry with Australian producers.

Mr Harrison has a longstanding connection to the agricultural industry. Starting out as a technician at the University of QLD Gatton Campus, and then becoming a lecturer at the Australian College of Tropical Agriculture at Ayr in North Queensland, Mr Harrison transitioned into banking in 1989, working at several locations around Australia including Charleville, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Melbourne.

Mr Harrison joined Rabobank in 2003, and was initially located in Melbourne before opening Rabobank’s Darling Downs premises in Dalby, and going on to become a regional manager for Rabobank’s Southern Queensland enterprises. He was then made QLD/NT state manager, a position he held for a period of four years before heading to North America.

Mr Harrison will be based in Brisbane until he returns to his permanent posting in Rabobank’s Toowoomba office.
